The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that some parts of the country will experience rains on Monday due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and northeast monsoon.
In a morning weather advisory, state weather bureau reported that the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with rains in areas of extreme northern Luzon.
“Due to the effects of the northeast monsoon, we can expect a high chance of cloudy skies and rain in the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan and the Apayao area.”
It added that many parts of Mindanao will also continue to see cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ.
“At this time, the southern portion of Mindanao is already experiencing rainfall. We can expect more areas to receive rain by the afternoon until evening, so we should prepare for potential threats of flooding and landslides, especially if continuous rainfall occurs across much of Mindanao.”
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may expect brief rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorms, but fair weather will prevail.
“In Metro Manila and the rest of the country, we can expect fair weather conditions today, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies. These may be accompanied by isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, mostly occurring in the afternoon until the evening.”
Pagasa said it has not monitored any tropical cyclone or low pressure area forming or entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
On the other hand, the PAGASA is eyeing to remove the names of Kristine, Aghon and Carina in the list of typhoons amid the extent of damage brought by the three cyclones in the country.
It said that the state weather bureau removes the name of a cyclone from the list if it caused at least 300 casualties or at least P1 billion worth of damage to agriculture and infrastructure.
