A severe thunderstorm caused heavy rain in some parts of Metro Manila and neighboring provinces. Several areas in Manila were flooded up to their knees, causing traffic and hardship for commuters.

At five o'clock on Friday the thunderstorm started and the downpour got even more intense around past five o'clock. Pasig City, Marikina, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Quezon City, Caloocan, and Manila were affected. Almost all of Luzon experienced heavy rains including Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Region and Central Luzon.

This weekend strong thunderstorms will continue in the afternoon and evening, but it will still be hot and humid in the morning and afternoon. This weekend in the forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) more than 35 places will experience a dangerous heat index level of 42°C or more.

That includes Aparri Cagayan, Dagupan City, Zamboanga City, Dumangas Iloilo, and even Laoag City. In the rainfall forecast of the weather company, in Mindanao there will be heavy rain in the morning of Saturday and Sunday, and in the afternoon there will be scattered rain in Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Soccsksargen.

In the Visayas, in Negros, Samar, Panay, and Leyte there will be rains in the afternoon and evening this Saturday and Sunday. There will also be some rain in Palawan on Saturday and Sunday, but a larger part will experience sunny and hot periods.

In Luzon, the rains will start in the afternoon in large parts and the thunderstorms will be more intense in the Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon both Saturday and Sunday. It will also rain in parts of Calabarzon and Mindoro Island.

In Metro Manila, although the sun will peek through until noon, heavy rain is expected again, possibly like the rain this Friday in the afternoon and evening.

The experienced heavy rainfall according to Pagasa is not a storm or low pressure area, it is the start of transition from hot season to rainy season cause by  the shear line.
