Weather state bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is monitoring a typhoon that is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
The tropical depression outside the PAR has strengthened into a tropical storm with the international name Maria. It is not expected to enter the PAR and it has no direct impact on any part of the country.
According to Pagasa, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat is the prevailing weather system on the country so rainy weather is still expected in the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan.
“The southwest monsoon will continue to affect a large part of Northern and Central Luzon. Rain is expected in the western parts of Luzon. Brief rains are expected in Southern Luzon, Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao due to localized thunderstorms.”
Also in Metro Manila and other parts of the country, this weather situation will remain where there are chances of short-term rain showers in the morning until noon. Clearer weather is expected during the noon, while in the afternoon and evening it is possible to experience isolated showers with localized thunderstorms.
On Pagasa’s thunderstorm advisory, moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds are expected over Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas and Bataan within the next 2-3 hours. All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards which include flash floods and landslides.
