GOVERNMENT PREPARATION FOR THE UPCOMING LA NIÑA, FLOOD CONTROL

According to Pagasa's estimation, 13 to 16 typhoons will enter the country this year, but according to the weather bureau, the rainy season has not yet started even though there will be scattered rains. On the other hand, President Bongbong Marcos ordered the joint efforts of all agencies to prepare for the upcoming La Niña, at the same time other local governments joined clean up drives to prevent flooding.

"We are ready, but of course, the long term, the real solution is flood control. We will fix the flood control, we will do irrigation, we will save water so that when the drought hits us again, like now we have a source of water," Marcos Jr. explained.
In President Marcos Jr.'s speech, he ordered a whole-of-government approach for the upcoming La Niña.
"Now that we are approaching the month of June, we expect the intense heat to subside but it will be replaced by intense rain. That is why I am instructing all government agencies to continue to coordinate especially with the LGUs in preparation for the coming La Niña,” President Bongbong said.
Garbage piled up under the Javier bridge in Pasig after it was cleaned last week which is part of the Manggahan Floodway. Together with volunteers and LGU staff, they picked up the garbage one by one. It is also said to be preparing for the coming rainy season, when the garbage gets through it can flow to Manila Bay.
Clearing operations were also held in the barangays in Pasay, removing those obstructing the roads as well as the garbage blocking the canals. At the same time, the MMDA is preparing its 71 pumping stations for the upcoming La Niña.
This is to clean the waterways and canals in Metro Manila and prevent flooding. There are also trash traps laid out to catch the garbage. One of those being watched is Taft Avenue in Pasay and Manila which is immediately flooded even if it rains a little.
DPWH plans to build three more pumping stations along Padre Faura, Abad Santos, Remedios, and España Boulevard to solve the flood. There are also plans to build pumping stations in other flood prone areas in Quezon City such as Araneta Avenue, EDSA Camp Aguinaldo, and Maysilo Circle in Mandaluyong. It was agreed that the flood gates will be opened in case the pumping stations can handle too much rain.
