GOVERNMENT OFFICES WORK SUSPENSION
On Malacañang announcement, government offices will only be open for half a day tomorrow, March 28, Wednesday, except for agencies related to health care services, disaster response, and other vital services this Holy Week. In private companies, it is up to the employer to decide whether to implement work-from-home or suspension of work.

The Official Gazette notified the public in a Facebook post that a proclamation was signed in October 2023, announcing a prolonged holiday for Holy Week 2024.
Stated on the Official Gazette, “Pursuant to Proclamation No. 368, s. 2024 signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., March 28 and March 29 are regular holidays, and March 30 is an additional special (non-working) day, making for an extended weekend in observance of Holy Week 2024.”
Signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, “To provide government employees the full opportunity to properly observe Maundy Thursday and Good Friday on 28-29 March 2024 and to allow them to travel to and from the different regions in the country, work in government offices on 27 March 2024 is hereby suspended from 12:00 o’clock in the afternoon onwards.”
“However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services,” it added.
Employers at private businesses and offices, on the other hand, are free to suspend employees' work at any time.
As stated in the declaration, “Black Saturday, which falls on 30 March 2024, has been traditionally declared a special (non-working) holiday throughout the country, the observance of Holy Week being one of the most cherished traditions of our predominantly Catholic people.”
