One of the most advocates of Original Filipino Music in her prime years in the 1970s to 1980s. Since retiring from singing in the year 2000, her voice was never heard again. In 2018, Coritha's house in Quezon City burned down and since then the folk singer has experienced many challenges in life.
Coritha now lives in a farm in Tagaytay Cavite with his partner, before February, she experienced a stroke until her condition worsened. The one who was looked up to can't stand now and can't even speak.
This surprised fellow singers like Bayang Barrios who called on his colleagues to hold a concert for his friend and hoping to help Coritha. Thus, OPM singers will be having a fundraising gig entitled “Awit para kay Coritha” scheduled on Aug. 5, the show will be held at My Brothers Mustache in Quezon City.
OPM singers including Cooky Chua, Lolita Carbon and Bayang Barrios organized the show, that will include performances from Barrios and Mike Villegas, Becky and Lester Demetillo, Bobby Mondejar and Friends, Chickoy Pura, Corky and Kiko, Chua and Kwachi Vergara, Carbon, and Toto Sorioso.
One of the vlogs of Julius Babao shows the current situation of the folk singer, and encouraged his viewers to also help Coritha.
Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-Aawit (OPM) is now reaching out to help the veteran singer. According to its post…
"We have been informed regarding the situation of OPM folk icon Coritha and we are in coordination with the people assisting Ma'am Coritha on how OPM can assist. We are also currently working on a fundraiser show happening this August for the benefit of Ma' am Coritha. More details coming soon."
