FIRST FIVE ENTRIES FOR MMFF 2024 ANNOUNCED, 50TH YEAR OF FILM FESTIVAL

On its 50th year, the Metro Manila Film Festival has announced the first five films participating for the 2024 edition as it returned to its roots in the grand launch in Manila City Hall. From the usual four, the MMFF Executive Committee decided to choose five films based on the submitted 39 scripts.
The 50th MMFF’s first batch of official entries chosen were: And the Breadwinner Is…; Green Bones; Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital; Himala, Isang Musikal; and The Kingdom.
And the Breadwinner Is… is a comedy film that was first announced in April, produced by ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. and The Ideafirst Company. Directed by Jun Robles Lana and written by Daisy Cayanan, Jumbo Albano, and Jun Robles Lana. Starring Vice Ganda, Gina Pareño, Maris Racal, Jhong Hilario, and Kokoy de Santos.
Produced by GMA Pictures and directed by Zig Dulay, the drama film Green Bones written by Ricky Lee and Anjeli Atienza and will star Sofia Pablo and Dennis Trillo.
The horror film Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital is directed by Kerwin Go produced by Reality MM Studios, Inc. and written by Dustin Celestino, Leovic Arceta, and Kerwin Go. Stars Jane de Leon, Enrique Gil, Alexa Miro, and MJ Lastimosa.
The musical film Himala, Isang Musikal starring Aicelle Santos, David Ezra, Victor Robinson, and Bituin Escalante is produced by Jose Lorenzo “Pepe” Diokno and Madonna Tarrayo. Directed by the MMFF 2023 Best Director Diokno that also wrote the screenplay alongside Ricky Lee.
A family drama production The Kingdom, starring Vic Sotto and Piolo Pascual directed by Michael Tuviera is the fifth MMFF 2024 entry. Produced by APT Entertainment, Inc., MZET TV Productions, Inc., and MQuest Ventures, Inc.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and MMFF attorney Romando Artes hosted the event and gave an overview of the festival's continued support of the film industry. Distinguished guests graced the event, among them First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos.
The launch highlighted MMFF's important contribution to the development of the nation's culture during the last fifty years.
