FIRE IN SAMPALOC MANILA KILLED SIX PEOPLE, INCLUDING 2 CHILDREN

A fire engulfed an entire residential compound in Blumentritt Street in Sampaloc, Manila before dawn on Saturday. According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the incident killed six individuals.
The incident occurred in a four-storey residential building on Laong Laan corner Blumentritt Road. The BFP said they first received information on the fire at 2:40 a.m. They raised the first alarm at 2:49 a.m. then second alarm at 2:50 a.m., where 12 firetrucks responded to extinguish the fire.
Firemen and fire volunteers had difficulty getting into the affected area since the entrance was very narrow and could only fit one person. Based on the investigation, the Manila Fire District confirmed that the victims were from two families which includes two children and four adults.
The second floor of the house gave way and fell onto the floor which, flooring is made of wood. Three bodies were found on the second floor while the others were on the ground floor.
The BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire, but one angle being looked into is possible electrical wiring problem. According to BFP-Sampaloc, the cost of the damage is estimated to reach P102,000.
The BFP reminded the public that since Christmas is near and the lights or Christmas lights are being used at homes, “it should not be open all night, let it rest, and buy from stores that comply with the regulation to be sure of quality.”
