A fire broke out at the ACT Theater along Aurora Boulevard in corner EDSA in Barangay Socorro Cubao, Quezon City, on Thursday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported.
The blaze started around 6:26 a.m. and reached first alarm around 6:37 a.m. where thick and dark smoke can be seen coming from the building. At 8:09 a.m. the BFP reported that the fire is under control.
The movie theater has not been operational for a long time, and the ground floor was occupied by several commercial establishments like cellphone accessories and clothing stores. Most of the damages by the blaze were bulk of clothes.
Because of the incident, the service road was closed which caused heavy traffic on EDSA northbound.
In the initial report of the BFP, three individuals were responded to by the emergency team. A fire volunteer and a civilian had difficulty in breathing, and another woman had a cut on her palm and was immediately given medical attention.
Residents in the adjacent condominium, were evacuated due to thick smoke.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation and the cost of the damages are not yet available as firefighters are still at the scene.
