The Bacoor exit of Cavitex in Barangay Longos was engulfed in thick smoke after a fire broke out in a residential area in Sitio Kanluran Zapote 3 before noon this Tuesday. The road was filled with residents and fire trucks so motorists were temporarily blocked and were not allowed to enter at the Bacoor exit.
The affected residents were trying save some of their belongings, some young people can be seen still wearing their uniforms. Some residents affected were even robbed.
The fire was immediately raised to third alarm and was declared fire out after three hours of firefighting. According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), no one was reported dead or injured in the incident.
Firefighters had a hard time putting out the fire because of the narrow road and residents blocked who scrambled to get out. In addition, the fire quickly spread to adjacent houses made of light materials and there are also houses standing above the sea that were not immediately reached by the firemen.
“As firefighters entered the narrow streets, they were met by people fleeing from the fire. Some were carrying large belongings, blocking the firemen and delaying response efforts,” BFP said.
The Bacoor exit was reopened to motorists after four o'clock in the afternoon. CAVITEX reported heavy traffic in the areas of Bacoor Exit (Southbound), Kawit Toll Plaza, and Parañaque Toll Plaza (Southbound, with counterflow provision) on Tuesday following a huge residential fire in Bacoor.
According to Bacoor municipality, affected residents will remain in the evacuation areas in Bacoor. Authorities have yet to estimate the amount of damage caused by the fire and the cause of fire is still under investigation.
