Among the self-rated poor, 46% saw themselves poor based on the food they consumed in June 2024, 15% were food-borderline, and 39% did not consider themselves food-poor.
Families that self-rated as poor stated that in order to not be considered poor, they required a monthly budget of at least P15,000. According to SWS, the self-rated poverty threshold has not changed over the previous ten quarters.
The median monthly family expenses were reported to be P3,000 for house rent, P2,000 for transportation to and from work and school, P900 for internet, and P360 for mobile phone load.
SWS conducted the latest survey from June 23 to July 1 using face-to-face interviews among 1,500 adults (18 years old and above) 600 in Balance Luzon (or Luzon outside Metro Manila) and 300 each in Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.
"To arrive at the estimated numbers of Self-Rated Poor families, the percentage of respondent households rating themselves as poor was applied to the Philippine Statistics Authority medium-population projections for 2024 and 2023, respectively," the SWS stated.
