EARTHQUAKE FELT IN CAGWAIT AND HINATUAN SURIGAO DEL SUR

On Thursday morning (February 29, 2024), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) reported an earthquake that struck some towns in Surigao del Sur.
In Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, a magnitude-5.3 earthquake was felt by the residents at 8:10 a.m. with nine kilometers of depth. While in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, a magnitude-5.6 tectonic quake occurred at 8:10 a.m. with a depth of ten kilometers.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at 08.77°N, 127.04°E, – 083 km S 78° E of Cagwait.
The following intensities of earthquake were felt:
- Intensity V: Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur
- Intensity IV: City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur
Instrumental Intensities:
- Intensity II: City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur
According to the state seismologist, the earthquake was an aftershock that hit the province on December 2 with a magnitude of 7.4.
