Starting this April, the Department of Public Works and Highways – National Capital Region (DPWH-NCR) has three major projects in several parts of Metro Manila, including the retrofitting or strengthening of the EDSA Kamuning flyover Southbound that will start this April 25 and will last for 11 months.
According to Engr. Paul Chua of DPWH-NCR immediate retrofitting is required because the bridge that was built in 1980 is quite fragile and also in preparation for a strong earthquake or the big one.
Chua also clarified that the entire section of the flyover will not be closed and will be divided into four sections to avoid heavy traffic. The MMDA will also request the DPWH to speed up the work if possible so as not to interfere with the Christmas rush.
DPWH will also repair the Roxas Boulevard particularly in Pasay and Manila which will start on April 5 and last for three weeks. Also the 16 concrete road reblocking that will also start on April 5 that will last until April 10 or 11.
DPWH-NCR noted that “while the repairs of both the projects continue during the night, closed lanes will be opened and will remain passable during daytime to facilitate smooth traffic flow.”
MMDA acting Chairman Don Artes clarified again that only DPWH will be allowed to carry out projects and private companies will not be allowed.
