DOH: LOW RISK FOR COVID-19 IN THE PHILIPPINES, NEW VARIATIONS
The Philippines remains at low-risk for CoVid-19 despite a slight increase in its cases. The Department of Health (DOH) recorded more than 877 cases of Covid this May 7 to 13, but according to the DOH this is lower compared to the previous increase in cases.
The 877 new cases nationwide are equivalent to an average of 125 cases reported per day. While on April 30 to may 13, fiver deaths were reported due to Covid-19. As of May 12, total of 116 cases are sever and critical admitted in various hospitals.

“It’s disturbing but we shouldn’t be alarmed because it’s manageable. We are not saying a lockdown, we just need to be careful,” Dr. Tony Leachon former Covid-19 Task Force Adviser said.
In line with global developments, the DOH reassured the public that it is still keeping track on COVID-19 case counts and recently discovered variants that are being closely observed.
The DOH stated that three new COVID-19 variations are being monitored, citing data from the World Health Organization (WHO): JN.1.18, KP.2, and KP.3. All of these are descendants of the variant of interest, JN.1.
In recent weeks, Singapore has reported nearly doubling its COVID-19 cases; over two-thirds of these cases were KP.2 variations.
The department said travel restrictions should not be implemented, however the DOH urged doctors to report those who test positive in the antigen test. As for another expert, it is better to wear a facemask in crowded places especially since the cases of Covid are increasing in Singapore.
The DOH advised the voluntary use of face masks in addition to basic safety measures like hand washing, avoiding crowds, and making sure areas have enough ventilation to avert a potential increase in COVID-19 cases in the nation.
All Philippine regions remain at low risk for COVID-19, the DOH said.
The department stated that its Bureau of Quarantine is monitoring points of entry across the country and that it “remains in close coordination with international health authorities.”
