DEPED: JULY 29-MARCH 21, 2025 SCHOOL YEAR IMPLEMENTATION

Students will have a shorter school year in the upcoming school year due to the return of the old school calendar next year. To alleviate that, the Department of Education wants to hold classes every Saturday.
The return to the previous school calendar is due next year in accordance with the directive of President Bongbong Marcos. That is to avoid the delay of classes due to the extreme heat of the weather.

Under DepEd's aggressive transition, classes will begin immediately on July 29 and end immediately on March 31, 2025. So that the academic year 2025-2026 can begin in June.
But in carrying out an aggressive return to the old school calendar, it will drop that there will only be more than 160 days of school, far from the usual 180 days.
House Committee on Basic Education Chairman Roman Romulo clarified that there is no law that mandates a minimum number of days or class of school.
"What we are telling them is, if we focus hard especially on the matatag curriculum, we will implement that, the competencies will be reduced, the subjects will be reduced, for next year only for this coming academic calendar only. Maybe less than 180 days will be possible, but let's focus on functional literacy subjects," he stated.
“Again, so we would be clear, this is the fault of nobody but it truly is hot,” said Romulo. “Our students and teachers are experiencing difficulty. It is good that DepEd has this aggressive push to return to the old school calendar.”
According to the DepEd, they have thought of a way to somehow increase the school day. One of their proposals is to hold classes every Saturday, but it will first go through the consultation of stakeholders such as parents, teachers, and students.
If the plan goes through, DepEd aims to hold Saturday classes four or five times per quarter. But face-to-face is not necessary because it can be blended like online classes or through modules.
