The government will pay the promised emergency allowance for medical frontliners who worked during the pandemic. The CoVid-19 allowance that each healthcare worker should receive costs P3,000 to P9,000.
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has good news for health care workers, it is said that the DBM will release P27.45 billion worth of CoVid-19 health emergency allowance for those who served health workers during the pandemic, it will be released today Friday.
It is said that this will pay more than 5 million unpaid allowances and 4,283 CoVid-19 sickness and death compensation claims. DBM's first target is 2025 for payment of the remaining allowance. According to DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, President Bongbong Marcos ordered the immediate payment of health workers' allowance.
"In fulfillment of the directive of our dear President Bongbong Marcos, we will release the additional P27 billion requested by DOH (Department of Health) for the settlement of unpaid HEA (health emergency allowance) claims of our healthcare workers by Friday, July 5, 2024,” the secretary assured.
“This is a promise fulfilled. Even though the DOH is asking for it in 2025, the DBM has tried to fulfill it sooner, because our workers in the health sector deserve it," she added.
The department has so far given P91.283 billion to the DOH for Public Health Emergency Benefits and Allowances (PHEBA), P73.261 billion of which was budgeted for health workers’ HEA.
PHEBA also provides funding for workers’ Special Risk Allowance (SRA), compensation for COVID-19 sickness and death, and other allowances for meals, accommodation, and transportation.
