The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported that the crime occurrence in Metro Manila has dropped by 23.73 percent from the last week of November 2024 until mid-January 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year.
The authorities said that From November 23, 2024 to January 15, 2025, the number of index crimes in Metro Manila was logged at 768. This figure is lower than the 1,007 incidents recorded during the year-earlier comparative period.
Index crimes are serious offenses and occur with sufficient frequency and regularity such that they can serve as an index to the crime situation. These offenses include murder, robbery, and rape, among others.
The NCRPO also said that it seized P153.29 million worth of illegal drugs. It said officers arrested 3,806 suspects in 1,518 illegal gambling operations and confiscated P928,000 in bet money.
At least 352 individuals were also arrested in the campaign against illegal firearms where 364 firearms were confiscated. A total of 976 most wanted persons and 1,190 other wanted persons were arrested, NCRPO added.
It said 349,465 violators of the local ordinances in Metro Manila were apprehended during the same period. The NCRPO attributed the drop in index crimes to the intensified police presence on the streets, areas of convergence, and major events.
NCRPO chief Police Brigadier General Anthony Aberin said, “NCRPO shall consider these initial operational milestones as our motivation to remain committed in performing our mandate of keeping the peace in Metro Manila.”
"With the help of a responsive community, we shall continue with our 'back to basics' approach in crime prevention and solution, while fully embracing innovations in law enforcement," he added.
