A video of which was uploaded by @trionkwentos on TikTok can be seen setting up a table date for a dinner date while traveling on an LRT-2 train that circulated on social media and were criticized especially by the rail's management.
In the video, a man sits beside a random female passenger and sets up a dinner table out of the blue with a candle and a plate, mimicking a date. It was interrupted after a security guard inside the train called them out on their unauthorized and possibly unsafe activity.
Many netizens gave their reactions and opinions, the content creator said he thought that what is done in other countries can be done here in the Philippines. He said he just wants to show the world that our public transportation is good. In addition, it is said that it is sad that fellow Filipinos will pull him down.
In clarification of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), “Such activities are prohibited on LRTA premises and facilities. We urge content creators to act responsibly by respecting their fellow passengers and adhering LRTA safety security regulations. Safety and consideration for others should always be a priority when using train services.”
LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera said the emergency brake can be activated anytime or the speed suddenly stops or decreases suddenly, the tables and plates will fly which can be thrown hitting the passenger.
The LRTA is considering several possible actions against the content creator and make sure the incident would not happen again. “We're thinking of writing to him, calling his attention, or we'll summon him or give him a sanction, we don't want to escalate this.”
"Safety and consideration for others should always be a priority when using our train services. The LRTA reserves the right to take appropriate action against individuals who violate safety and security guidelines," it said.
Cabrera added that LRTA is not completely opposed to having content creators over but they should seek permission first and only do activities in designated areas. The LRTA have special events committee that accommodate sing and busking activities, “We encourage that. But we have to do it within certain parameters.”
