The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) and the easterlies will continue to affect the country bringing cloudy skies and rains over several areas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In a morning forecast, Pagasa said Batanes will have cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeast monsoon or amihan, but no significant impact is expected.
While Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the monsoon. No significant impact is expected.
The easterlies, on the other hand, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental. Moderate to at times heavy rains may result in flash floods or landslides.
“Other parts of Visayas and Mindanao will continue to experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms,” the state weather bureau stated.
It added that Eastern Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to a shear line. Flash floods or landslides may possibly occur due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
The rest of the country on the other hand may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may result.
Pagasa warned residents in these areas to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.
No low-pressure area or weather disturbance near or within the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) is being monitored. For the month of January, based on Pagasa’s latest data the chances of a tropical cyclone forming are minimal.
