Local government units (LGUs) have suspended classes in some areas due to the inclement weather cause by Tropical Depression Gener and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat on Tuesday, September 17.
Metro Manila: Caloocan, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Navotas, Quezon City, San Juan, Valenzuela
Ilocos Region: Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Dagupan City
Cagayan Valley: Cagayan - Calayan, Enrile, Tuguegarao, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino
Several areas in Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and Negros Island Region were also suspended.
According to the weather state bureau, Tropical Depression "Gener" slightly weakens as it interacts with the Cordilleras. Heavy rainfall may be experienced due to Tropical Depression GENER and the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by GENER and Tropical Storm PULASAN.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal no.1 were raised in the areas of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, the northern and central portions of Bataan (Dinalupihan, Orani, Hermosa), Aurora, the northern portion of Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta) including Polillo Islands, the northern portions of Rizal (Rodriguez, San Mateo), and the northern portion of Metro Manila (Quezon City, Caloocan City, City of Valenzuela, City of Malabon, City of Navotas, City of Marikina, City of Manila, City of San Juan, City of Mandaluyong).
GENER is forecast to emerge over the coastal waters of Ilocos Sur or La Union today. The tropical cyclone will then move generally westward over the West Philippine Sea until Thursday (19 September) before turning west northwestward as it heads towards southern China.
GENER may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between tonight and tomorrow (18 September) morning. In the next 12 hours, GENER may possibly weaken into a Low Pressure Area as it continues to interact with the rugged terrain of Northern Luzon.
However, as it emerges over the coastal waters of Ilocos Sur or La Union, it may reach tropical storm category tomorrow early morning, and further intensification over the West Philippine Sea is not ruled out.
