Civilians will be allowed to buy and own high-caliber guns again, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP). That includes semi-automatic high powered fire arms such as 7.62 and 5.56 caliber rifles.
It will be implemented before the end of March, following the rules and regulations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act.
The Duterte administration suspended the Act in 2018 so that the terrorists could not use it to fight the government, as happened during the Marawi siege.
The PNP said that there’s nothing to worry about, if it is proven that there’s abuse of firearms, they will be held accountable.
Some gun retailers and gun owners agree with the PNP’s move as long as the buyers go through proper training and examination.
The Gunless Society of the Philippines is against saying we should not follow the gun culture of America, where mass shootings have been recorded several times. They suggested that civilians should not be allowed to take their guns out of the house when arming bodyguards and politicians is prohibited, and limit each civilian’s firearms to two.
