CINEMALAYA FILM FESTIVAL 2024 AWARDS, “TUMANDOK” AS BEST FILM

The 20th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival awards night held at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay was an unforgettable moment for the cast and crew of awarded films. The best actress was awarded to Marian Rivera in her movie “Balota” and Gabby Padilla of “Kono Basho.”
The film “Kono Basho” also won the Best Director in full length film Jaime Pacena II, Best Production Design, and Best Cinematography.
Enzo Osorio was the best actor in the Cinemalaya in his movie “The Hearing.”
The “Tumandok” movie that won four awards as the Best Full-Length Film, Best Original Musical Score, Best Screenplay (full length film), Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) award, and Best Supporting Actor for Felipe Ganancial.
"Tumandok," which means "The Native” showing the Ati community of Sitio Kabarangkalan in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo, who is the subject of the movie. Wanting to show the value of land to indigneous people, and the community's struggle to reclaim their ancestral land, which has been under constant threat of being taken.
The community itself was the credited composer of the winning score, and the Ati community in Sitio Kabarangkalan is the reason for the story's composition.
Meanwhile, "Cross My Heart and Hope to Die" got the Best Short Film and Best Director Award (Sam Manacsa) for Short Film. With "Primetime Mother," also with 2 trophies Audience Choice Award and Best Screenplay for Short Film.
“An Errand” won the Best Sound Design and Best Editing. Audience Choice Award (full length film) is awarded to “Gulay Lang Manong”. Sue Prado as Best Supporting Actress in “Kantil”, NETPAC Jury Award (short film) for “Abogbaybay”. The Special Jury Prize to “Pamalandong sa Danao” in short film and “Alipato at Muog” in full length film.
