Five China Coast Guard (CCG) ships once again perform an aggressive maneuver and harass the Philippine vessels after it surrounded, fired water cannons, and rammed six times the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) vessel near Escoda (Sabina) Shoal in the West Philippine Sea on Sunday.
BRP Datu Sanday was deployed for a “humanitarian mission” and encountered eight Chinese vessels while en route from Hasa-Hasa Shoal to Escoda Shoal. CCG 3104, 4102, 21555, 21551, and some militia vessels surrounded the BRP Datu Sanday and simultaneously attacked with a water cannon targeting the navigational equipment of the said Philippine vessel by the BFAR.
Crews and media onboard Datu Sanday took shelter as the water goes inside the ship and with the strong impact of the water cannon, the communication and navigational equipment of its ship were damaged.
Some of the windows and ceiling were also damaged and a wooden chair was cut in half due to the impact. The ship also suffered an engine failure, aborting its humanitarian operation to bring supplies to fishermen at Escoda alongside its maritime patrol there.
The state media of China claimed that the CCG took “control measures” against the Philippine vessel that illegally intruded into the waters near Xianbin Reef (Sabina Shoal) in the Spratly Islands. And Beijing also claims that a Filipino crew had fallen overboard and were rescued by the CCG.
On the National Task Force on the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) statement, “The CCG vessels made close perilous maneuvers that resulted in ramming, blasted horns, and deployed water cannons against the BFAR vessel, eventually leading to the latter’s engine failure and forcing an early termination of the humanitarian operation.”
“This fake news and misinformation serve as a clear illustration of the PRC’s (People’s Republic of China) willingness to distort the truth and engage in disinformation to bolster its public image,” the NTF-WPS said.
