CAVITE: CATS EATEN BY CATS

The City Veterinarian office in Dasmariñas, Cavite is investigating a cat pound for possible neglect of cats. Some cats were caught on video eating the litter of their fellow cats. At the cat pound in Brgy. San Jose, residents caught up some cats eating corpses of their fellow cats in a cage with only bones left.
According to Yvette Mayo, they went to the cat pound last week and she accompanied her friend to look for the missing cat, she was very surprised to see such a scene. Yvette suspected that the cat had nothing to eat so they had no choice but to eat each other.

It can also see in the video that some cats are getting weak. The water container is full of dirt. There was also no food in the cage so Yvette fed the cats. Yvette immediately informed the barangay officials of the incident.
They said they talked to the Brgy. Chairman that she would take the cats for the shelter. She was surprised when she found out that 20 cats were released the next day. The barangay stand that they do not neglect the cats, there are two keepers of the cats and they feed them twice. They said they suspected that some cats might be aggressive so they also ate those who died.
According to the Executive Director of Philippine Animal Welfare Society Anna Cabrera, it is not a natural behavior of a cat that when it is aggressive it will eat the enemy, that does not happen. No cat will attack and will eat, eating happens when there is starvation that happens so hungry that the cat is forced to eat the next available thing just to survive.
Those who operate a pound must have a permit from the Bureau of Animal Industry to operate a pound to be notified of what must be done to comply with the animal welfare act. if the pound is not registered and reportedly has many dead cats due to starvation, violating the animal welfare act, may face 1.6 years to 2 years imprisonment and up to P100,000 fine.
