President Bongbong Marcos led the opening of the new passenger terminal building at the Batangas port. This is said to be the largest and most modern inter island maritime hub in the country.
The Batangas port is one of the busiest during the big season or long holiday, so it is expected that the expansion of this passenger terminal building will be of great help. From 2,500 passengers per day, it can now accommodate 8,000 passengers. If it's a big season, it can even reach 22,000.
At the inauguration of the terminal this Friday, President Bongbong Marcos insisted that it will be a big help for the economy. A port like this connects mainland Luzon and Mimaropa as well as some areas in the South, including Iloilo, Negros, Cebu and Mindanao.
“Today, we are inaugurating the bigger and the better passenger terminal to fully unlock the potential of the places and the people that this port serves. In so doing, we validate its status, not as a provincial port, but as a port of national significance,” Marcos said.
According to Marcos, this increased the port’s annual capacity from 4 million to 12.8 million passengers.
"Maximizing the port of Batangas helps in decongesting our Manila ports, causing the dispersal of economic activities to places more than capable of housing, entrepreneurial, and industrial boom"
Apart from the expansion of the terminal, facilities have also been added including the water refilling station that is needed this summer. There is also a prayer room, nursing room, all gender toilets, and charging stations. Additional food stalls were also installed, the terminal is also air-conditioned.
“There’s also good news for those of you bringing your vehicles to the port. The Port of Batangas Passenger Terminal Building has a multi-level car storage facility that can take on 13,000 vehicles,'' Marcos added.
Security has also been tightened with the addition of baggage x-ray machines, walk though metal detectors, and CCTVs.
