Actress Bea Alonzo file a cyber libel complaint against veteran showbiz columnists Ogie Diaz and Cristy Fermin along with their co-hosts on their online shows, at the Office of the City Prosecutor of Quezon City.
For more than two decades in the entertainment, this was the first time Bea decided to file a legal action, this is because of the damaging statements they said against her according to the actress lawyer Atty. Joey Garcia.
"These are three separate criminal cases and yes, three respondents per case, and the third case is totally different. It was filed against a certain individual who made defamatory comments on one of Bea’s social media platforms," Garcia stated.
This included the accusation that the actress had been insulted repeatedly in their shows and columns, in addition to the claim that she had not paid the right taxes.
“Because the defamatory statements and personal attacks, they are legally actionable. I would like to emphasize that Ms. Bea has been very patient all these years, she has endured all these malicious statements against her character in the past months, in the past years actually with silence, dignity and grace, so there is always a limit,” he added.
Ogie Diaz speaks up through his Facebook account apologizing to all the reporters calling for fair reports, and will answer in the right time. “Ayoko nang magpakaplastik, tulad ng lagi naming hinihirit sa Ogie Diaz Showbiz Update, sila pa rin gusto naming magkatuluyan sa ending," he stated.
Meanwhile, netizens have noticed that actress Liza Soberano like a report featuring Alonzo filing charges, and shared it. Netizens pointed out that even if Soberano's social media posts lacked a caption, it still had a strong message. While this was going on, the actress remained silent about it.
Garcia then reminded social media personalities to exercise caution, “we would like to remind all the social media users, especially vloggers to understand the legal implications of engaging in such behavior. To exercise caution and responsibility in all their online interactions.”
