Nearly 1,000 families or 4,000 individuals were evacuated in two barangays in Cavite City Sunday afternoon. A dark and thick smoke engulfed barangays 5 and 7 on Badjao Street, Dalahican. According to the authorities, the fire broke out around three in the afternoon.

Some residents boarded a boat and jumped into the sea to escape the fire. The local government said the source of the fire was welding.
The blaze was raised to fourth alarm where more than 50 fire trucks was needed from various fire volunteers and was extinguished by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) at 5:54 p.m.
Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua immediately rushed to the fire scene to help those affected residents, whose homes are primarily composed of light materials.
The afflicted residents were quickly evacuated to Dalahican Elementary School and Sta. Cruz Elementary School and are being cared for by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, led by Rowena Andrade.
