8 KILLED AS TRUCK PLOWED THROUGH VEHICLES, HOUSE IN COTABATO

At least eight individuals were killed after a 10-wheeler cargo truck loaded with fertilizers lost its brakes then rammed vehicles and houses along a highway in Barangay Malasila in Makilala, Cotabato on Thursday morning.
According to the Makilala Incident Management Team the helper of the truck driver said the driver lost control of the vehicle when the brakes allegedly malfunctioned while they were traveling downhill stretch of the highway, causing the deadly accident.
It then rammed into pedestrians, parked vehicles, and a house killing eight people including a kindergarten pupil of Malasila Elementary School along with his parents, a person with disability who was inside a house hit by the vehicle, and the truck driver himself.
Authorities said the incident also left several others injured, two of those injured were in critical condition and are currently in hospitals in Kidapawan City. Members of the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office responded to the accident.
The truck was carrying 450 bags of fertilizer, which scattered on the road after the crash. Other victims were buried under sacks of fertilizers that fell off the cargo truck after it plowed through the parked vehicles.
The cargo truck was from Davao City and was heading to Tulunan town in Cotabato province. Local authorities continue to investigate the incident while assisting the families of the victims.
Police officials in the province were urged to compel the owner of the 10-wheeler truck to compensate the families of the accident fatalities.
