6-MONTH-OLD INFANT DIED DUE TO EXTREME HEAT

A 6-month-old baby died in Cavite after suffering from heat stroke, it was said that the baby was only left for a moment and suddenly turned pale when his mother returned. April 20 when the baby passed away, according to the mother she just put her son to sleep before taking a bath and she was shocked to see that the baby was already pale when she came back.

The baby was immediately rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. According to the mother, the child is not sick, and it is difficult for the doctors to assess it before taking it to the hospital. But in the initial examination, it is possible that it died of heat stroke or sudden infant death syndrome.
According to the baby's family, it is really hot in their house because there is no ceiling and no air conditioning. According to the Department of Health (DOH), the papers regarding the baby's death have not yet reached them. However, they still reminded the public to take care in the extreme heat of the weather.
From January to April 29 this year, 77 people fell ill related to the hot weather, while seven died. DOH's reminder to avoid exposure to the sun, always drink plenty of water, if possible wear cool clothes, and use heat protection such as umbrellas and hats if you have to go out in the heat.
It is also said that it is better to breast feed babies to avoid heat stroke, "Breast feeding saves from heat stroke because when we breast feed, we are given not only nutrients but also water or hydration to the baby," DOH stated.
It is said that the first aid for babies is also different if they are found to have symptoms of heat stroke. DOH said parents should be observant of their children's feelings. If the baby's body is hot and irritable, it is better to take them to the hospital immediately.
DOH also said that babies should not be wetted or iced, "the baby's body is small, the temperature adjustment is fast. We can wipe them, we have a wet towel damp it, it’s like help getting rid of the fever."
