The water service provider Maynila Water Services Inc. announced that some areas in Metro Manila and Cavite will temporarily experience a water interruption that started at 10 p.m. on September 19 that will last until 10 p.m. on September 20, 2024.
This is because the 2.2-meter diameter pipeline along Recto corner Delpan Avenue, Manila which carries water from the treatment plant in Quezon City to customers in the south, was accidentally hit by a third-party contractor of the MMDA who was conducting a drainage construction project in the area.
Urgent repair works on the damaged pipeline are need to be done that would affect areas in Manila, Makati, Pasay, Las Piñas, and Parañaque in Metro; and Cavite City, Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite Province Manila. Temporarily interruption of water supply will be experienced.
The company will be deploying mobile water tankers to deliver clean water as needed and provide updates including the list of affected barangays and their respective interruption schedules. Affected customers are advised to store sufficient water for the duration of the service interruption.
According to Maynilad, the repairs was completed Friday morning but energization is also underway to irrigate the said pipe again that's why water supply will gradually be restored to the affected areas for the next few hours.
The actual time of water service resumption will depend on the elevation of the area, the distance from the pumping stations of Maynilad, and the volume withdrawal strength of customers.
“Expect temporary water discoloration when the supply is restored. If this happens, run the water briefly until it runs clear. Collect the first water that comes out because it can be used for non-drinking purposes, such as flushing the toilet, so it doesn't go to waste,” the announcement reads.
