2 CYCLISTS DEAD AFTER GETTING HIT BY A TRUCK AND AN ARMORED VAN

On Tuesday in Manila and Quezon City, separate incidents where male and female cyclists were hit by a vehicle and reported dead. At the corner of Padre Burgos and Roxas Boulevard in Ermita Manila, a 47-year-old male was dead after getting hit by an aluminum high-side truck.

According to PSMS. John Mark Estrada, investigator of the Manila Police District Vehicular Traffic Investigation Section (VTIS), "The truck is traveling northbound, it is on the right at Padre Burgos. Then the motorcycle was on his right and he was still traveling northward along Roxas Boulevard. When the truck was turning right, he accidentally hit the bike in front. The bike fell, then the bike was run overed and then the person. Unfortunately, the cyclist died." 

The victim died immediately because of severe and fatal injuries; the victim’s back was run overed by the left rear tire of the heavy truck leading to instant death according to the report.

On the CCTV obtained, the 36-year-old driver did not notice the cyclist since it was on the blind spot. The suspect didn’t realize that he had run over someone and just felt as if he had passed something according to police report. The truck driver will face complaints of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide and Damage to Property.

Meanwhile, a female died cycling in A. Bonifacio Quezon City when she was hit and run over by an armored van that the driver also didn’t notice. The bicycle was seen waiting for a time to cross the road when the armored car suddenly hit the victim. 

"When she’s in the middle, going to A. Bonifacio, that's where the armored car collided with the bicycle rider," according to Traffic Sector 1 Commander Captain Napoleon Cabigon.

According to the armored van driver, the van was heavy so he didn’t feel that he hit someone until he saw someone signaling so he stopped. A “jack” was need to lift the car and get the victim trapped under. The driver will face complaint of Reckless Imprudence Resulting to Homicide.
