Big transport groups are threatening a “tigil-pasada” if the Senate goes ahead with the resolution calling for the suspension of PUV modernization.

A new threat of suspension from various transport groups is rising. This time, drivers and operators who joined the cooperative and corporation for the Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program are protesting.

One of them is the Magnificent 7 group that is disappointed and doesn’t like the plan of some senators including Senator Raffy Tulfo and Senate President Chiz Escudero to pass a resolution to urge the government to suspend the PUV modernization program.

According to the protesters, they have already risked and spent a lot for the program and then it will just be suspended.

The group said that this decision is not fair anymore. According to them, they are the ones who supported the government and now they are the ones who will suffer.

"Who else will support the government's program if the President of the Senate himself orders the suspension without even talking to us."

If it continues, the people will definitely be affected, the group said.

The group Arangkada Philippines, also threatened a “tigil-pasada” if they are not allowed to march in Malacañang on August 5. They are calling to listen to the majority in this issue.

Meanwhile, according to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), they will write to Escudero to think carefully about the planned resolution. The agency also admitted that if there will be a “tigil-pasada”, it will be more difficult for them to control the situation.

"For now, we can't say because 80% is such a huge number. We will not immediately respond in such a short time but we will do the same process," LTFRB Chairman Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III said.
